How To Hide Security Camera Wires Outside

by | Feb 2, 2022 | Home Security

Burglaries are happening too often nowadays. Currently, there are about 4,500 home burglaries per day in the United States. To add to that, properties without home security systems are 300% more likely to be burglarized as they’re seen as easy targets. That is why property owners continue to look for live video surveillance cameras. However, when installing security cameras, there can be a vulnerability issue which homeowners must know about.

Security cameras often have multiple wires attached to them, and sometimes these wires are left dangling or exposed. In this case, it not only gives a pretty untidy view, but also offers an opportunity for burglars to cut the wires and disconnect your security cameras. Consequently, the security camera will be unable to record the incident.

Fortunately, there are simple and inexpensive ways to hide the wires inside & outside your property. To prolong the lifespan of your security camera wires, you should jot down some notes on the following methods for hiding security camera wires.

Method 1: Camouflage the Wires With Paint

This first method is the best and most straightforward way to hide your security camera wires safely outside.

To do this, you have to paint the wires the same color as the wall you’re attaching them to. Doing so can create a camouflage for the cables to be hidden from the burglar’s view. There are two ways to paint the wires; first is using detachable wires wherein you can paint the wires before plastering them into the wall. The second option is by neatly stapling the wires to the wall with a staple gun, so you can easily paint over it. Option #2 typically works best, as perfectly fastened wires to the walls make it much harder for burglars to detect the security camera wires, especially from a distance.

Method 2: Buy Wires That Match Your Wall Paint

Sometimes, painting the wires can be difficult and messy. This is why finding a wire with the same color as your wall is best to do before installing a security camera on your property. There are various colors for camera wires, so you don’t have to worry about having a hard time finding one that matches your wall. Visit your local electronics store or find the wires on Amazon. Even if the wires aren’t an exact match to the paint, they can still serve as an excellent way to camouflage your security camera wires.

Method 3: Plastic Tubing for the Wires

Another great, but slightly more complex method is putting the wires inside a plastic tubing that runs throughout the wall. Using plastic tubes hides the cables quickly and protects them from external damage such as weather, intruders, and animals. However, keep in mind that this method will typically require a licensed contractor with additional installation costs.

Method 4: Hide Wires Inside A False/Secondary Ceiling

You can also utilize your false/secondary ceiling (if you have one) to hide the security camera wires. Aside from plastic tubes, the roof can provide safety for your wires to not be damaged easily. To do so, you must analyze a gap in your false ceiling to insert the wires through. It’s always advisable to ask professionals to do the installation as they know the correct and safe method of doing so, and they won’t cause any damage to your ceilings.

Method 5: Hide the Wires Inside Baseboards

If you don’t have a false or secondary ceiling, you can use this alternate method of hiding the wires. This method requires you to put the cables inside your baseboards. This is the tidiest way to hide security camera wires. Baseboards run through the wall near the floors and can be easily removed and put back. This way, you can safely and neatly tuck away the wires through the gap in the wall and floor. Also, this method is much easier to do, so you likely won’t need to hire a licensed contractor.

Method 6: Mount Decorative Pieces and Hangings Along the Wire

Making good use of decorative pieces on your porch is one way to hide the security camera wires. This method saves you money and is very simple to set up. Hide the wires behind decor along the wall or behind your outdoor furniture. You can easily fasten hanging wires with binder clips or zip-ties.

Method 7: Bury the Cables Underneath Your Porch or Garden

This method involves a bit more effort compared to the other ones. Hiding your wires underground is best done during the construction of the property, so there will be no need to disassemble your patio or garden. Again, since this is a somewhat complex method of hiding the wires, and it can be best to leave this job to licensed professionals.

Method 8: Get a Wireless Security Camera System

Last but not least, simply consider buying a wireless security camera. This method is probably the most cost-effective way to prevent burglars from cutting the wires (as there are no wires attached to the camera in the first place). There are already various wireless security cameras that offer many advantages over those that need wiring. With a wireless camera, you can easily mount it in any spot you’d like. Wireless cameras are also conveniently powered through batteries, and some can even stay powered through solar panels.

In Summary

From the methods above, there are many easy ways to hide security camera wires. Out of all the tips above, we recommend installing a wireless security system such as Deep Sentinel live surveillance. Deep Sentinel’s wireless cameras are unique in that they have live guards that monitor your home 24/7, so the burglars won’t even stand a chance at entering your property.
